PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health released its latest coronavirus data Friday. They report 9 new deaths and 901 new positive cases.
There are currently 384 Rhode Islanders hospitalized for the virus, 51 being treated in the ICU and 35 using a ventilator.
The state has now surpassed two-thousand deaths, recording 2,005 COVID related deaths since the pandemic began. A total of 104,443 people have tested positive for the virus.
An update to vaccinations across the state shoes that 41,977 people have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 9,243 have been fully vaccinated.

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, Director of The Rhode Island Department of Health has ordered the license of a North Providence doctor to be emergency summarily suspended. Investigators determined that he deliberately exposed his staff and patients to COVID-19, endangering the community.
Dr. Anthony Farina, a graduate of Brown University School of medicine, runs six medical practices in the state. According to a 21 page document issued by the Department of Health, Dr. Farina has been suspended from practicing medicine indefinitely.
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — With Governor Gina Raimondo expected to head to Washington D.C. to serve as Commerce Secretary under President-Elect Joe Biden, Rhode Island’s Lieutenant Governor, Dan McKee, addressed the media Thursday regarding his transition from second in command to the state’s top office. “I want you to know who I am,” McKee said Thursday, introducing himself to residents.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health reports 924 new positive cases and 6 new deaths Friday.
Hospitalizations remain below the 400 mark today, with a total of 390 people hospitalized for the virus. A total of 55 are in the ICU and 39 are using a ventilator.
Since the pandemic began to plague the area in the spring of 2020, a total of 97,614 people have tested positive and sadly 1,916 Rhode Islanders have died from the virus.
The vaccine roll-out does continue in the state… 29,743 people have received their first dose of a vaccine and 1,798 people in Rhode Island have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
