The bright lights, sounds of laughter and live entertainment are returning to the stage at Pueblo’s Memorial Hall after more than a yearlong absence forced by the COVID pandemic.
Comedian Carlos Mencia will be the first to take the stage at 6 p.m. May 20 at Pueblo Memorial Hall, 320 Central Main, when he hopes to not only get people laughing again but coming out for live entertainment that benefits a good cause. From the “Mind of Mencia,” Comedy Central show to this year s “C 4 Urself Tour,” the Honduras native’s stop in Pueblo will raise funds for the Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School senior scholarship program.
Business is starting to take a step in the right direction at the Pueblo Convention Center, where everything from dance recital rehearsals to the upcoming March 21 Bridal Expo are keeping staff busy.
The convention center, 320 Central Main St., recently received a 5-star certification, which means staff are implementing safety measures beyond what is already required by public health orders when it comes to COVID-19 pandemic protocol. The certification often means the business is able to operate at less strict capacity limits. However, because Pueblo County just moved to Level Blue on the dial, the convention center will operate under the same 175-people-per-room capacity limit allowed by that level.
Staff at the Pueblo Convention Center are ready to host weddings and other events, and they are even eyeing some holiday gatherings after Pueblo County moved to less restrictive safety precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The convention center, 320 Central Main St., reopened Monday after being closed most of November and December. The reopening was made possible by Pueblo County’s move from state health department’s level red classification to level orange on the state s COVID-19 dial. This allows for gatherings of up to 50 people per room.
“We are excited to be open again,” said Nick Palmiotti, director of sales and marketing.
