Apr 17, 2021 The Kansas City Chiefs have plenty of needs going into the 2021 NFL Draft while also having a roster that is still filled with Super Bowl potential. This is one of those “good problems” for the Chiefs and general manager Brett Veach. They won’t be pigeon-holed into choosing one specific position with their first pick and they can afford to maneuver the draft however they see fit. If you ve been following my recent Studs or Duds series, I wanted to continue forging ahead in draft mode. For this exercise, I’m going to do a mock draft of what I think Veach and the Chiefs front office will do vs. what I want the team to do, round-by-round, pick-by-pick.

2020: Six receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown in four games played. 2019: 23 receptions for 241 yards in nine games played at Florida State. Positives: Tre McKitty is an athletic tight end with a good burst at the line of scrimmage, solid lateral agility and plus long speed. He s a legitimate threat to pick up yards after the catch (YAC). He also boasts an impressive catch radius, measuring with 11-inch hands at Georgia s pro day. McKitty elevates well and plucks the ball out of the air with his hands rather than being a body catcher. While McKitty still has a ways to go as a blocker, he s more than willing to get his hands dirty in the run game. He uses his size well and spent time at several different pre-snap alignments. He has the potential to be a sound run blocker at the next level. McKitty has a ton of room to grow as a player, and the foundational tools are there for him to be a better pro than he was a college tight end.

The 43-year-old has headed the organization’s front office for three seasons, while the team totaled 44 wins the most victories among all NFL teams over that span. He also became the youngest general manager in league history to win a Super Bowl with the championship season in 2019. Each year, Veach has done his part by being active in free agency. One of the few players who didn’t come back for the next season was tight end Blake Bell. A free agent, he decided to sign with the Dallas Cowboys. A year later, Bell has returned to Kansas City. The 29-year old signed with the Chiefs on March 18 and on Wednesday, he used his introductory press conference to explain his path back to the team with which he earned a Super Bowl ring.
