A popular eastern iowa golf clubhouse is no longer standing, after a fire early friday morning. Flames engulfed the amana colonies golf club, around 3 45 am friday. The fire was so hot crews couldnt approach the building at first. The smoke and flames were visible for miles, and it took firefighters about two hours to put the fire out. The building is a complete loss, but no one was injured. Firefighters remained at the scene most of the day. The fire also destroyed dozens of golf carts and other equipment. One former employee at the golf course said she had to come and see the damage for herself. I dont think its hit us yet, affiliation with it, other than going over to golf, no its really sad. The state Fire Marshals Office says it could take weeks to find the cause of the fire. Health officials are preparing to give university of iowa students the mumps vaccine, free of charge.
