Signal Mountain, Baylor Claim Region Wrestling Titles

Saturday was a day of celebration for wrestling teams representing Signal Mountain and Baylor as they both won their region tournaments as they get ready for next week’s traditional state tournament that will be held at the Hamilton County Convention & Trade Center.
The Eagles won the Region 3-A/AA for the first time at Eagleville as they put seven individuals in the championship finals and came home with six winners while racking up 227 points and beating runner-up Nolensville by 37 points.

Baylor’s wrestler fought their way to a second place finish at the just completed Annual Knockout Christmas Classic in Orlando. The Red Raider grapplers finished just behind Tuttle from Oklahoma in a tournament that featured at least 11 nationally-ranked athletes from across the country.
Tuttle had 10 different competitors that contributed double digit points to their winning score of 215.5. Baylor was just behind at 197.5. The Raiders’ Nick Corday took the championship at 113 pounds, defeating his opponent, 2-1, in a match that went four overtime periods.
