SHARON Vermont State Police are investigating what caused an SUV being driven by a 37-year-old South Royalton man to cross a grassy median on Interstate 89 and collide with an oncoming vehicle, killing a Northfield, Vt., woman and her 94-year-old.

SHARON, Vt. A 60-year-old Vermont woman and her 94-year-old passenger were killed Tuesday afternoon after their vehicle crossed the median on Interstate 89 and collided with an oncoming SUV, according to Vermont State Police.
The driver, Gail Parent, of Northfield, Vt., was taken by helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and later died, according to a news release from Vermont State Police. Her passenger, Victor Parent Jr., also of Northfield, died at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, Nicholas Tarr, 37, of South Royalton, suffered serious injuries and was taken to DHMC, police said.
