Scientists have uncovered new clues about a curious fossil site in Nevada, a graveyard for dozens of giant marine reptiles. Instead of the site of a widespread die-off as suspected, it might have been an ancient maternity ward where the creatures went to give birth.
Known as Shonisaurus popularis, the species resembled a chunky dolphin that grew to at least 15.2 meters long and died in large numbers at one particular site some 230 million years ago.
