The Royal Year in Review: the Kents

27th December 2020 In ordinary times, the past year might well have seen a focus on the Duke of Kent celebrating his 85 th birthday and questions asked about how much longer this devoted cousin of the Queen would continue to serve the Royal Family. Instead, this most extraordinary time has seen the Duke reshape his working pattern around the challenges of the pandemic without a mention of retirement. In fact, the Duke of Kent has remained as integral to royal life as he has ever been throughout the difficult times of 2020. Not only is the Court Circular still peppered with engagements for the prince, once more he has taken on some of the most important and sensitive duties in the royal diary.

Põlluaas: Riigikogu moving to remote working not necessary

The Speaker of the Riigikogu Henn Põlluaas (EKRE) does not think it is necessary to send members of the Riigikogu to remote working for the last two working days even if 12 members cannot participate because they were in contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus. The board will discuss the matter on Wednesday (December 16). On December 14, a joint meeting between the Cultural and the Economic Affairs Committee took place and one participant tested positive for coronavirus positive the next day. However, Põlluaas said that it s not sure if the 12 members have to stay in self-isolation because the probability of catching the infected is quite low. The meeting was held in a big conference hall, everybody sat socially distanced wearing masks and the person with coronavirus positive sat even further away.

Jenny Bailey-Beech is giving some of her Okami Makes card making profits to charities and her most recent chosen charity was Water Aid. The nine year old has been able to donate £100 to the charity which works across the world to transform lives by improving access to clean water, toilets and hygiene. Jenny said: “I chose to support Water Aid because we twinned a tap in Montgomery Children’s Church to help people who live in poor countries and protect them from COVID-19. “I thought this was a really good practical thing to help, so I decided I’d like to raise more funds for them.”
