This is important because the RENACER Act (new sanctions on Nicaragua) is now being discussed in both the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. It is relatively unusual to have a bill considered at the same time in both houses. Clearly the powers that be in the United States want this bill with more illegal coercive measures against Nicaragua passed ASAP to try to hurt Nicaragua in the lead-up to the November elections.

Managua, Mar 11 (efe-epa).- Unicef’s regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Jean Gough, has warned of institutional neglect of Nicaragua’s North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACN) that was hit four months ago by the powerful hurricanes Eta and Iota.
During a six-day tour of Nicaragua, Honduran Gough visited four communities in the RACN hit by the two hurricanes – category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, of a maximum of 5 – and said in an interview with Efe the impact was big and the need to find solutions for the population there is urgent.

Nicaragua ratifies sovereignty over marine reserve in the Caribbean
Managua, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) Nicaraguan Ambassador at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Carlos Argüello on Tuesday championed his country s sovereign right to create a biosphere reserve in the Caribbean Sea.
By creating this reserve we are protecting an area of 44,000 square kilometers, the largest in Central America and in compliance with what the ICJ established in 2012, the diplomat said in an interview via Zoom with En Vivo news hour from Canal Cuatro of Nicaraguan television.
Last week, the National Assembly (Parliament) of Nicaragua passed the law that declares and defines as Biosphere Reserve of the Nicaraguan Caribbean an area containing natural resources and full coastal and marine ecosystems with a high ecological and economic value in that region of the national territory.
