The Rasa String Quartet will play a specially commissioned piece at A St. Patrick s Day Celtic Sojourn
Fresh from the success of the virtual “A Christmas Celtic Sojourn” in December, WGBH broadcaster Brian O’Donovan and his dedicated production team, plus a cohort of accomplished music and dance performers – including some from Greater Boston – will present an online version of the annual “St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn,” from March 11 to March 14, and on March 17.
Joining O’Donovan, the show’s creator and host, will be Newfoundland singer Matthew Byrne; Boston-based Irish fiddlers Nathan Gourley and Laura Feddersen; Scottish/Cape Breton-style fiddler Hanneke Cassel and Québécois guitarist Yann Falquet; local uilleann piper Joey Abarta; highly touted traditional Irish duo Caitlín Nic Gabhann and Ciarán Ó Maonaigh; and sean-nos, or “old-style” Irish dancer

This week s featured
Rolling Wave podcast continues with an occasional series which has been running on the programme, where a musician selects an album or an artist who has influenced their own playing - listen above.
This week our guest is concertina player Caitlín Nic Gabhann and her chosen album is a fantastic recording of concertina music,
The Nervous Man by Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh.
Like Caitlín, concertina player Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh is from Co. Meath and
The Nervous Man was his debut solo album. As described by Caitlín in the podcast, the album was innovative in many ways and showcased Mícheál’s fantastic playing and considerable technical skill on the instrument. He was accompanied on the record by Michael Rooney on harp, Eoghan O’Brien on guitar and Frank McGann on bodhrán.
Kylemore Abbey in Connemara is the spectacular setting for ‘Ceol ó Kylemore: Ceiliúradh na mBan’, a Red Shoe Production for TG4.
The programme will air on tonight (Sunday), the eve of Saint Brigid’s Day – Lá ‘le Bríde, a day which traditionally marks the end of the long dark winter and embraces the returning of the light. This year more than any other, the date is especially welcomed and Ceol ó Kylemore provides the perfect musical celebration of this beginning of Spring and the brighter days ahead.
This hour-long programme was recorded at the end of 2020 and features some of the best of women traditional musicians and singers.
