The Health Secretary had to explain the timings set to lift the latest coronavirus lockdown measures but was unable to provide an exact date, saying it was simply impossible to know. It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson comes under pressure from backbench Conservative MPs to announce the relaxing of the lockdown rules on March 8. Sky News host Niall Patterson told Mr Hancock: Many of your colleagues are looking towards March 8 as the point at which we begin to see restrictions being relaxed. That s not going to happen is it?

Robert Jenrick insisted the amount of money we spend on political advisers is very small by international standards A TORY minister has defended the UK Government’s decision to give Dominic Cummings a £40,000 pay rise this year. Cummings, the Prime Minister’s most senior adviser, left Downing Street last month to work from home until mid-December following a power struggle in Number 10. A report released yesterday showed the adviser was paid between £140,000 and £144,999 this year – a jump in salary as high as 51% as last year he was earning between £95,000 and £99,999. One special adviser told The Times that the pay rise was “rank hypocrisy” as other Downing Street staff have seen raises of about 1%, if any, this year.

Stephen Barclay had to explain the reasoning behind the Government s decision to put London and parts of Hertfordshire and Essex under Tier 3 within weeks of the lockdown expiring. The move was announced on Monday after the number of fresh coronavirus infections reported from the Capital began to rise worryingly. Sky News host Niall Patterson told the Chief Secretary to the Treasury: There are parts of the country that have been barely been out of Tier 3 or the equivalent for many, many months.
