A century ago this fall, Pu-Kao Chen ’23 left Shanghai, China, to enroll at William & Mary, becoming the university’s first Asian student and opening the door for hundreds of Asian and Asian-American students, faculty and staff to follow and create their own firsts over the next 100 years.
William & Mary is now preparing to mark that anniversary with a multi-year commemoration, beginning this semester and culminating with the 2022 Commencement ceremony. The Asian Centennial will celebrate all those at W&M, past and present, who identify as Asian or of Asian ancestry, including those from Southwest Asia – often referred to as the Middle East.
Director Niall McKay s The Ferry has qualified for the short live action Academy long list.
Described as a darkly comic mystery with a twist, the film focuses on a young woman who battles ancient forces of church and state in a bid to find her birth mother. It reveals many women s struggles with losing their children to mother and baby homes. The Ferry is a short drama that explores the themes of secrecy, family, loss and regeneration set against the backdrop of the mother and baby homes in small town Ireland. It was shot on location in Shillelagh and Tinahely, Gorey in Co Wexford and in Crooke, Co Waterford.

I d love to see Kelly and George Christensen dispatched on an overseas Parliamentary fact-finding mission to the UK or USA. There, they could check hospitals to confirm that the vast numbers being treated for COVID are real, and not a hoax . They could also inspect the refrigeration trucks that are being used as temporary morgues. They could travel without masks and vaccines, using hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin to protect themselves.
