A 38-year-old man arrested in 2016 after a fatal crash in downtown Lubbock was sentenced on Tuesday to 40 years in prison after admitting to drug and weapons charges.
Jonathan Lovato appeared before Judge Douglas Freitag in the 140th District Court to enter a plea of guilty to counts of possession with intent to deliver between 4-200 grams of methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He was sentenced to 40 years on the drug charge and 10 years on the weapons charge, which will run concurrently. He has been held at the Lubbock County Detention Center since March 2016.
As part of his plea, charges of murder, aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and evading in a motor vehicle, were dismissed.
