NEW DELHI, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) A large number of crows died due to avian flu in India s western state of Rajasthan, officials said Thursday.
The carcasses have been found in and around Radi area of Jhalawar district, about 340 km south of Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan.
Authorities have rushed a rapid response team to collect samples and probe the reasons behind crow deaths. Over the past week, we have witnessed the death of crows in the area, following which we got in touch with the animal husbandry department, which collected samples and sent them to Bhopal and the reports suggest they have died due to bird flu, Ngikya Gohain, collector Jhalawar said. Since crows aren t domesticated birds, so we can t order their culling but we have issued an alert to the poultry farm owners.

Jhalawar (Rajasthan) [India], December 31 (ANI): After several crows dropped dead in Rajasthan s Jhalawar district on Thursday due to the avian flu, the district administration imposed has Section 144 in the area. Section 144 has been imposed in the affected area in the Radi area. A Rapid Response Team has been constituted to collect samples from poultry farms and shops, informed Jhalawar s Collector Ngikya Gohain.
He further said if the flu is found to have infected poultry in chicken farms, all the chickens will have to be culled and suitable compensation would be given to the owners.

The Jhalawar district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 in the Radi ke Balaji locality of Jhalawar district after an outbreak of avian flu that has left scores of crows dead.
The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal has confirmed that the deaths were due to avian influenza though they have not yet identified the strain of the virus that caused the flu.
The deaths of the crows have been reported since December 25 from a temple in the Radi ke Balaji locality on the outskirts of Jhalawar town. The temple was shut on Wednesday and police force has been posted outside the temple gates.
