ANC boss mum on row with new MEC

Eastern Cape ANC secretary Lulama Ngcukayithobi has refused to answer questions about a WhatsApp conversation in which he accuses newly appointed public works MEC Ntombovuyo Nkopane of nepotism. A screengrab of the conversation has been doing the rounds on social media and in it Ngcukayithobi, in isiXhosa, explicitly tells Nkopane that she is committing nepotism by hiring Nomvula Qola as her chief of staff.

Eastern Cape villagers dig across road in service delivery protest, ANC blasts 'criminal act'

Eastern Cape villagers dig across road in service delivery protest, ANC blasts criminal act By Ziyanda Zweni and Vuyolwethu Sangotsha - 13 May 2021 Traffic was disrupted when disgruntled villagers dug a trench across the R61 road during a service delivery protest near Ntsimbini in Port St Johns on Thursday morning. The protesters also blocked the road between Libode and Port St Johns with burning tyres until police dispersed them. The protesters told DispatchLIVE that they wanted clean drinking water. “We have been sharing drinking water with animals,” said a 38-year-old protester Andile Nqondi. The villagers accused officials of rigging votes during a branch general meeting of the ANC earlier this month in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
