NFL Draft TV Ratings Top Oscars Viewership For First Time in History

Viewership for Thursday night s NFL Draft was the second-highest the league has ever seen, trailing only the virtual draft a year ago. But the NFL accomplished something it s never done, and that s draw better ratings than the annual Oscars.
The NFL announced Friday afternoon that the first round on Thursday night drew 12.6 million viewers, which was a combination of both TV and digital platforms. Just four days earlier, the Academy Awards drew an audience of 9.85 million people.
Thursday night was the second-best opening round of the draft, second only to 2020, which drew 15.5 million viewers who saw NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell conduct the draft from the basement of his New York home.
The raucous crowd in Cleveland let out a small "boo" when the song was finally halted abruptly, but then a louder "boo" was heard just two picks later.

The New York Giants loaded up pretty good in free agency, their acquisitions touching virtually every position group on the roster.
