The Kansas City, Kansas-based union’s executive council had voted to oust Newton Jones for allegedly misusing union funds for personal gain — including funneling large sums of money to his Ukrainian wife for work she never performed.
“The parties have demonstrated an unusual capacity for mischief, leading the Court to determine that time is of the essence,” a federal judge said in an order issued Tuesday involving the Boilermakers union.
“Never could I have imagined finding myself faced with this kind of situation when retiring just a few months ago,” said newly appointed Boilermakers president Warren Fairley.
