One month ago Gov. Phil Murphy said there were still 195 students statewide, 85 of them in Sussex County, who did not have the technology or reliable internet to attend school virtually. We won t be happy until that 195 gets to zero, Murphy said at the time.
That zero goal was reached on Wednesday.
Murphy announced in his press briefing that New Jersey s digital divide is now no more. There are no students who lack either a device or dependable connectivity in the state, he said.
The 195 students without connectivity attended nine state school districts.
The 85 students without connectivity in Sussex County all hailed from Newton and the issue was resolved thanks to a partnership between the school district and local service provider Planet Networks, which equipped the children with high-speed internet.
