Newton NJ man Edwin Greene charged after police shooting incident

New Jersey Herald An 80-year-old Newton man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after he fired two shots toward Newton officers during a Tuesday afternoon melee  that led to a town-wide lockdown. Edwin Greene, who resides on Spring Street, is receiving mental health treatment at Overlook Medical Center in Summit and will be jailed upon his release, according to a release by the Newton police. Greene is also facing weapons charges and eluding following the incident that unfolded after he called police stating he was suicidal and was in the parking garage of the Newton Town Centre complex with a gun, police said.

The Village Bank helps sponsor Annual Holiday Gift Drive in Newton Community Content The Village Bank partnered with the Newton Rotary and the city of Newton Department of Health and Human Services to sponsor the city’s annual Holiday Gift Drive. This year will mark the 13th consecutive year the bank has sponsored the event. For the drive, the bank invites its customers, neighbors and other members of the Newton community to drop off new and unwrapped gifts to any Newton branch of The Village Bank through Dec. 15. Gifts should be for children ages newborn to 10 years old and may include age-appropriate toys, games, electronics and sporting goods as well as gift cards from local merchants.
