Waikato District Health Board (DHB) chief executive Dr Kevin Snee is providing an update after a serious cyber attack on its systems. The DHB s computers were targeted in a ransomware attack a week ago, believed to have been triggered when someone opened an attachment they shouldn t have. The group claiming responsibility says it has obtained the personal information of patients and employees. Newshub has been sent what are claimed to be documents stolen in the hack. The group has reportedly given the DHB a deadline to respond, which has since expired.

A father and his teenage son are the two people who died in a serious house fire in the north Auckland suburb of Coatesville on Tuesday morning, it s emerged. Emergency services were called to a residential property on Mahoenui Valley Rd shortly before 6:30am. Newshub understands the pair were living in a minor dwelling at the back of the rural property. They re well-known in the small community, where the son had attended the local primary school.

Labour s election promise to boost emergency dental grants has been pushed to the side in order to pay for its $486 million health system restructure. It also promised $37.5 million to provide an additional 20 mobile dental clinics in remote areas. But there was no mention of dental in Budget 2021, and a draft letter from Health Minister Andrew Little to Finance Minister Grant Robertson, obtained by National s health spokesperson Shane Reti, appears to show why.
