Lionel Barber s access to world leaders over the past fifteen years has given him a front-row seat to decision-making amid what he calls ‘turbulent times’. Since leaving his longtime position at the Financial Times last year, Barber published his book, The Powerful and the Damned . He recently spoke with NewsHour Weekend s Christopher Booker to discuss his perspectives on Trump, Putin, Brexit and more.

The photo album Lionel Barber managed to assemble during his tenure as editor of the Financial Times is like a flipbook of global power.
His 15 years running one of the world s most well known financial newspapers brought a steady stream of interactions with CEO s like Disney s Bob Iger and world leaders like Gordon Brown, Vladmir Putin and Donald Trump.
On his first day in office, President Biden rescinded the Trump-era so-called “Muslim Travel Bans,” which affected travel from several Muslim-majority nations. And while immigration advocates praised the reversal of what they called discriminatory policies, NewsHour Weekend’s Ivette Feliciano reports on the call for the Biden administration to go even further.

On his first day in office, President Biden issued an executive order that rescinded the Trump-era travel restrictions on majority-Muslim and African countries, popularly known as the Muslim Travel Bans. Immigration advocates praised the reversal of what they saw as discriminatory policies. But as NewsHour Weekend s Ivette Feliciano reports, while those impacted breathed a sigh of relief, they say Biden policies must go further, and their work is far from over.
In the middle of New York City s Times Square, a new interactive sculpture was unveiled earlier this week as part of an annual Valentine s Day-themed design competition. But this year, in the middle of a pandemic, with so many communal, live gatherings not possible, this public art project took on new symbolism, incorporating plywood, a material that has become ubiquitous in cities in the past year. Ivette Feliciano reports.
