The Delhi Police in its chargesheet against Newsclick, a prominent news portal, and its founder Prabir Purkayastha, accused them of several offences including terror funding and promoting Chinese propaganda.
The Court rejected the argument of ASG SV Raju that Purkayastha was asking for special treatment, noting that if Asaram Bapu could get medical treatment at AIIMS, the NewsClick founder could as well.
According to the FIR, a large amount of funds to the portal came from China to “disrupt the sovereignty of India” and cause disaffection against the country.
Amit Chakraborty and NewsClick founder-editor Prabir Purkayastha were arrested in October following searches at over 50 locations linked to the news portal.
