Defibrillator stolen from Newport church

A DEFIBRILLATOR has been stolen from outside Newport Methodist Church. The device, which restores a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart, was taken from the building in Quay Street at some point between February 1 and 9. Medical staff in a passing ambulance had noticed the light flashing on the cabinet container in which the defibrillator is usually stored, upon closer inspection they realised it had been removed. The defibrillator was donated to the church by The British Heart Foundation in 2016 and has not been targeted before. Police have been informed of the theft, and anyone who has information is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 5555 111.
