Newkirk Mayor Believes Family Gravesites Were Targeted By Vandals
The mayor of Newkirk said his family has been harassed and threatened since a national newspaper misquoted him and connected him to the violence at the U.S. Capitol, but he said what’s happened now goes beyond anything he ever imagined.
The desecration comes after a week of threats to Newkirk Mayor Brian Hobbs and his family, but he said taking out anger on his family gravestones goes too far. That s one of the most horrific things I think you can do to a person, he said.
Hobbs believes the desecration of his family s gravesites is the latest act of intimidation, following a week of threats.
Oklahoma Sheriffs Association
At least one sheriff and two mayors were among the Oklahomans present in Washington, D.C., Wednesday for a protest against the rightful results of the 2020 presidential election on the day a pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol and left five people dead.
Canadian County Sheriff Chris West said at a Friday press conference that he marched to the Capitol but did not participate in nor witness violence. I can t talk about, where was I when the violence was going, because I didn t see the violence. I don t know when it happened, West said, noting he wore a Make America Great Again hat and chanted stop the steal, a rallying cry for supporters of the debunked conspiracy theory that the election President-elect Joe Biden won was somehow stolen from President Trump.
