NEWCOMERSTOWN Jeff Staggs, superintendent for the Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District, wants district residents to know that the students, staff and administrators for the district appreciate the passage of a recent levy request on the May primary ballot. We are grateful for the support in the passing of our renewal levy,” Staggs said. “A huge Trojan Thank you’ to all voters! This will allow the district to operate in the black. Goooooooo, Trojans!”
Voters in the district approved the levy by a nearly 4-1 margin, 176-45.
Voters in the Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District originally passed this 9.2 mill levy in 2005. The operating levy funds can be used “to educate, counsel, support and transport students. Operating dollars are also used to pay staff and upkeep/repair facilities.”
DEERSVILLE The Deersville Community Players has learned that its fundraising project through the Cause Connector website has been fully funded. It’s such a blessing and will help us out greatly with our overhead expenses, said Marsha Dodds, president of the organization.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group was unable to stage any productions in 2020 or hold any fundraisers. But it still has to pay for insurance and utilities for its historic theater in Deersville.
The group was able to meet its goal of raising $3,531.34.
The Deersville Community Players was among the first organizations to be featured on
the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio s new Cause Connector giving site.
NEWCOMERSTOWN When an event draws enough people to create a traffic jam, it’s a success. And that was what the Easter Experience hosted by the Home Plate Project became on Saturday, March 27, at Cy Young Park.
The free event by the community ministry program included free food, prizes (including bicycles and Easter baskets), and thousands of Easter eggs.
A crowd estimated at over 1,000 jammed into Cy Young Park with plenty of children, parents and grandparents coming to enjoy a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. Traffic was backed up to College Street prior to the event and cars were parked everywhere at the park. One of those attending was almost in awe when they arrived, saying, “I didn’t know there were this many people in Newcomerstown.”
Tuscarawas libraries to distribute antigen tests
The Times-Reporter
Public libraries in Tuscarawas County are joining other libraries across Ohio in partnering with the state to distribute at-home rapid antigen test kits to the public.
The libraries requested kits from the state to distribute these self-administered nasal swab tests, which were provided at no cost by the state of Ohio through an exclusive agreement with eMed. The antigen test can provide test results in as little as 15 minutes.
Kits will be available at libraries in Bolivar, Dover, Gnadenhutten, New Philadelphia, Newcomerstown, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, Tuscarawas and Uhrichsville. Those interested in obtaining a test can call their library to arrange a time for pick up. The libraries will offer contactless delivery of the test kits through drive-up windows or curbside service.
