State wildlife officials have announced two new record fishes caught in Utah waters.
Officials with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said both fishes were caught in southwestern Utah.
The record wiper fish was caught on May 23, 2021 at Newcastle Reservoir in Iron County by fisherman Trevor Cooper. The record was for catch and keep fish.
The fish measured 29 1/4 inches long with a 23 5/8-inch girth. It weighed in at 15 pounds, 4 ounces.
According to DWR, the previous record weighed 11 pounds and was caught at the same place.
A cross between striped bass and white bass, the wiper was introduced into Utah waters in the early 1990s.
