SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) As we celebrate Women s History Month, we re taking a close look at changemakers. They are mothers, daughters, sisters and friends helping each other overcome difficult circumstances, including incarceration.
According to The Sentencing Project, it s estimated that the incarceration rate for women in the U.S. grew more than 8 times between 1980 and 2019, going from 26,000 to 222,000: an increase of 700%.
