Yvonne May “Chris” Madsen was born in New Ulm, Minnesota May 22, 1932. She was the eldest of three children born to Florence (Warnke) and Edward Christensen. Yvonne graduated from New Ulm High School. After graduating from St. Cloud Teachers Collage in 1952, Miss Christensen began her career in Lake Crystal. Her favorite position was teaching 2nd grade. She married Lyle “Mike” Madsen in New Ulm in 1954. Bucking traditional norms and policies regarding marriage, pregnancy, and same district employment, she taught for 12 years.

COTTONWOOD United Prairie Bank is bringing financial literacy education to over 2,280 students and residents in Cottonwood and several other surrounding counties.
Students at 23 schools and the surrounding community will now have free access to Banzai, an award-winning online program and content library that allows users to practice real-world finance from the safety of their home or classroom using any internet-enabled device. Schools in New Ulm include St Paul’s Lutheran and New Ulm High School.
Through the Banzai online courses, students try out managing a budget, saving for a goal, and dealing with unexpected financial pitfalls. Teachers are able to easily monitor and grade student progress remotely. Other resources, which include articles, calculators, and personalizable Coach sessions, explain everything from the basics of filing your taxes to how health insurance works.
