Connecticut schools aim to continue increasing teacher diversity

A new report found Connecticut outpaced its goals to hire more teachers of color by 10 percent since 2017, but more work needs to be done. Seventy percent of the 16,500 students in Stamford Public Schools identify as people of color, while 17% of the staff do. For the 2020-21 school year, Connecticut’s teacher workforce was made of 9.7% of educators of color while more than 47% of the state’s students identify as people of color, according to the state Department of Education.
