Developer s big plans for NJ wind power | NJ Spotlight News

Credit: (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) File photo Atlantic Shores, one of two offshore wind developers chosen by the state last month to build wind farms off the Jersey coast, is looking to eventually build up to 3,000 megawatts of wind turbines in lease areas it has obtained. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approved the 1,510-MW project in the southern portion of its lease area 10 to 20 miles off the coast between Atlantic City and Barnegat Light on June 30. The Atlantic Shores project is a joint venture of EDF Renewables and New Shell Energies LLC. Atlantic Shores, however, has purchased leases for 183,000 acres the largest yet obtained by an offshore wind developer and hopes to develop the northern portion after obtaining approvals in future solicitations, company officials said during a virtual open house it sponsored Tuesday.

NJ on way to second massive wind farm | NJ Spotlight News

Offshore wind farm under construction The Murphy administration awarded the largest procurement yet for offshore-wind projects along the Eastern Seaboard, giving two developers the ability to triple the capacity of wind turbines in New Jersey, producing power for more than 1.6 million homes. The winners of the state’s second solicitation for offshore-wind projects will build a combined 2,658 megawatts of new capacity, adding to the 1,100 megawatts now under development by Ørsted’s Ocean Wind project off Atlantic City. Ørsted won the right to build another 1,148 megawatts for its Ocean Wind II project, while Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind’s 1,510-megawatt project was also approved. The latter is a joint venture of EDF Renewables and New Shell Energies LLC.

NJ gets ready for another big offshore wind deal

Credit: (AP Photo/Robert F. Bukaty) File photo In a decision that could make New Jersey a leader in wind power, the state is poised to award a deal for the second-largest procurement of new offshore turbine projects yet to be developed anywhere in the U.S. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is scheduled Wednesday to award projects to one or two developers of offshore wind projects that could triple the output of such projects being built off the coast, primarily in waters off Atlantic City and southern Jersey. Offshore wind is a key if not most critical component of the Murphy administration’s goal to transition to 100% clean energy by mid-century. By then, the state hopes that at least 23% of its electricity is generated by offshore wind farms, backed by a robust green economy employing thousands in well-paying jobs.
