NEW MILFORD For Robert S. Golembeski, the volunteer firehouse in New Milford was like a second home.
Since the 1970s, his rare smile and steady presence were a staple there, his chief said.
The longtime, second-generation volunteer firefighter with the historic Water Witch Hose Company No. 2 of New Milford, died at 69 on Feb. 24 after an illness.
Golembeski was a lifelong New Milford resident, spending nearly a half-century serving his community. From New Milford High School to the Water Witch firehouse, he was a familiar presence around the town.
“Bobby was always around the firehouse, whether it was a training night, a work night, cleaning, doing training,” Fire Chief Richard Squires said. “If you needed somebody to take one of the fire trucks to a function or for standby, you would ask him, and he would do it with a smile on his face and very proud to do it.”

Responding to objections from doctors who want to provide COVID-19 vaccinations within their own offices, the state’s top public health official said Thursday she expects primary care physicians to be able to offer inoculations by late summer or early fall.
The Connecticut State Medical Society is raising the concern, pointing to difficulties some patients have finding vaccine appointments and to the bond of trust between doctor and patient that could coax some hesitant people to get the vaccination.

On a day when Connecticut’s COVID positivity rate was the lowest it’s been in weeks, Gov. Ned Lamont announced a reopening plan Thursday that will allow restaurants and most businesses to return to full capacity this month.
But masks and social distancing will still be required.
Starting March 19, capacity limits will be lifted at all restaurants, retail stores, personal services facilities, houses of worship, museums, aquariums, zoos, office buildings and other similar businesses.
Commercial gatherings like wedding halls will be limited to 100 people indoors and 200 outside. Private residential gatherings will be limited to 25 people inside and 100 outside.
