First stage of Latin American Film Festival ends in Cuba
Havana, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) The first stage of the 42nd International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema ends today in Cuba, but the event will remain open because its competition days will take place in March 2021.
Dividing the festival in two phases was the solution its organizers found amid the difficult situation unleashed by Covid-19 worldwide.
Not to cancel the traditional festival in December, it was decided to hold an exhibition festival, from Dec.3 to 13, which has screened in this capital nearly 100 contemporary and high-quality audiovisual works.

11 de diciembre de 2020, 8:34Havana, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) The Script and Poster award juries of the 42nd Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema will announce this Friday the winners of the Coral awards in both modalities, the only competitions held in 2020. Given the measures adopted in Cuba and globally due to Covid-19, the event had to be adjusted and its organizers decided to divide it into two stages: the traditional meeting to only screen films, from December 3 to 13, and the contest, lectures and debates planned to be held on March 11, 2021-21.

Havana, Dec 10 (Prensa Latina) The film Hotel Coopelia, a story of determined women, by Dominican director José María Cabral, stands out today at the 42nd Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which runs in this capital until the 13th.
The film, included in the Latin American Panorama section of the film event, is inspired in the true story of five women who fought to protect their beliefs and rights in the context of the 1965 Dominican Civil War.
According to Cabral, the film was challenging by focusing on a story about marginalized groups that resisted the abuse of power during a crucial historical event in the Dominican Republic.
