Travis Etienne was the No 2 running back in the NFL Draft The Jaguars are seeing how he rates as a wide receiver

42 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. New Jaguars tailback Travis Etienne swears he wasn’t trying to make any kind of statement when he selected jersey No. 1. In fact, he didn’t intend to take advantage of the new NFL rule allowing most players a wider selection of numbers. Etienne, who wore No. 9 at Clemson, went through the spring hoping he could land an old-school running back number. “I wanted No. 44,” Etienne said Saturday. Etienne figured the number worn at Syracuse by all-time great backs Ernie Davis, Jim Brown and Floyd Little and worn in the NFL by John Riggins would be available on most teams. But when he got selected by the Jaguars, that number was decidedly unavailable. It belongs to linebacker Myles Jack, the best player on Jacksonville’s defense. Rather than try to buy the number off a guy much wealthier than himself, Etienne decided he’d just take a number that was available.
