New York CFO Pleads Guilty to Laundering Scheme Involving Diamonds April 7, 2021 A New York company’s chief financial officer acknowledged stealing nearly $776,000 to invest it partly in African diamonds, according to federal prosecutors. Michael Bartusek pleaded guilty to wire fraud, money laundering and filing a false tax return Thursday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York. Bartusek could face up to 20 years in federal prison for the fraud conviction, 10 years for the money laundering conviction and three years for the tax conviction. In addition, he could face up to $250,000 in fines and a money forfeiture judgment of $946,000.

New Hartford exec admits to stealing more than $775K, losing it on African diamond investment Updated 11:02 PM; A New Hartford company’s chief financial officer admitted Thursday to stealing $776,000 from his firm to invest it partly in African diamonds, federal prosecutors said. Michael Bartusek, 58, pleaded guilty to wire fraud, money laundering and filing a false tax return, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York. The plea comes just more than a year after Bartusek was originally charged. From the summer of 2015 through 2016, Bartusek defrauded a company out of about $776,000 and invested it in a scheme to buy and sell diamonds, federal prosecutors said. Bartusek worked for New Hartford-based PAR Technology Corporation during that time.
