Wilmington police and New Hanover Sheriff s deputies were involved in a shooting incident Wednesday that ended with a suspect allegedly driving at a deputy before hitting a police vehicle.
According to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department, Wilmington International Airport personnel encountered a suspicious man who tried to gain access to a secure area. The suspect, a 33-year-old male, was confronted by airport personnel who asked him to leave.
Around 5:01 p.m. police officers, who did not know of the airport incident, tried to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle committing a traffic offense. The driver refused to stop.
