Präsident Biden will verbliebene Häftlinge jetzt nach Möglichkeit in ihre Heimatländer abschieben.
Rund sechs Monate nach Amtsantritt hat US-Präsident Joe Bidens Regierung erstmals einen Häftling aus dem Gefangenenlager Guantánamo an dessen Heimatland überstellt.
Abdul Latif Nasir sei nach Marokko gebracht worden, weil er keine Bedrohung der nationalen Sicherheit der USA mehr darstelle, erklärte das Verteidigungsministerium am Montag. Marokko habe Sicherheitsgarantien gegeben und eine «menschliche Behandlung» Nasirs zugesagt, hieß es. In Guantanamo Bay in Kuba verbleiben damit noch 39 Häftlinge.
