( NFI ), one of the world s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today unveiled its Xcelsior AV™ automated transit bus, now in motion at Robotic Research, LLC ( Robotic Research ) in Maryland.
The Xcelsior AV™ unveiling follows New Flyer s launch of its Automated Technology Program first announced in May 2019, and the subsequent announcement of partnership with artificial intelligence and automation leader Robotic Research also announced in May 2019.

Hexagon Purus has entered into an agreement with North America s largest mass mobility solutions provider, New Flyer of America Inc. and New Flyer Canada ULC (collectively New Flyer ) for the supply of high-pressure hydrogen tanks. These tanks are destined for New Flyer s groundbreaking zero-emission Xcelsior CHARGE H2 hydrogen fuel cell electric transit buses in 2021. Total contract value is approximately USD 900,000 (approximately NOK 7.7 million).
Driving energy transformation
The hydrogen tanks, which rely upon Hexagon Purus technology, will be used to store compressed zero-emission hydrogen gas. These high-pressure tanks are certified for use in North America and Europe. The tanks will be manufactured at Hexagon Purus North American production facility in Taneytown, Maryland.

( NFI ), one of the world s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today announced that the Connecticut Department of Transportation ( CTDOT ) has awarded New Flyer a contract for 12 Xcelsior CHARGE™ battery-electric, forty-foot heavy-duty transit buses, with options to purchase up to 63 additional zero-emission buses in thirty-five or forty-foot lengths throughout the remaining term of the five-year agreement.
CTDOT owns and operates nearly all public transportation services in Connecticut, delivering more than 27 million annual trips. Its CTtransit bus system is the state s largest – supporting eight urban areas – and includes CTfastrak, a bus rapid transit system launched in 2015.

Order marks MARTA’s first electric bus purchase from New Flyer, joins over 40 North American agencies with active zero-emission bus programs supported by New Flyer
New Flyer of America Inc. announced that the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has awarded New Flyer with a new order for six Xcelsior CHARGE zero-emission, battery-electric forty-foot heavy-duty transit buses. MARTA is among the largest transit systems in the US, providing public transit to the Atlanta metropolitan region and delivering 116 million passenger trips per year.
The purchase is supported by federal funding from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Low or No Emission (Low-No) Grant Program. MARTA has been transitioning to lower-emission propulsion since 1996, when the agency first introduced compressed natural gas (CNG) buses from New Flyer.
