“A good decision is based on knowledge and not on numbers.” Plato. Greek philosopher 429-347 B.C.
In my experience, the two most superstitious groups of people I know are sailors and gamblers. It surprises even me that although I’m a member of both those groups, I am, in general, not a superstitious person. Oh, when I was a kid, I may have had a favorite baseball glove or maybe a favorite hockey stick, but that was never a serious thing.
Some people base their whole lives on things like the phases of the moon, the days of the week or the phases of the horoscope. I do have webbed toes, and when I was a little boy, my superstitious Irish grandmother predicted that I would grow up to be a water person. I never took that seriously, even after becoming a surf lifeguard, a member of the swim team in high school, a swim instructor (my son learned to swim before he could walk), a commercial fisherman and a merchant seaman.
