The World Health Organisation has warned blanket travel bans will not prevent the spread of Omicron, as more countries rushed to impose curbs and the first cases of the new Covid strain were detected in Latin America.
The US President urged Americans anew to get fully vaccinated, including booster shots, and return to face masks indoors in public settings to slow any spread.
The WHO regional director for Africa, Matshidiso Moeti, called on countries to follow science and international health regulations in order to avoid using travel restrictions.
“COVID Response Team’s immediate recommendation to all vaccinated adults is to get a booster shot as soon as possible," Biden said in his first Omicron update.
