In a virtual press briefing Wednesday, March 3, officials from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) laid out the latest developments and plans of their respective agencies amid the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago said that the agency remains committed in building and developing port projects across the archipelago, as infrastructure projects remain crucial in the inter-zonal movement of people and goods across the country.
The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) bared that the procurement of civil works for the construction of New Cebu International Container Port Project (NCICPP) in Tayud, Consolacion is underway and if the schedule will proceed as planned, the groundworks will finally begin in August 2021.
This was revealed by CPA during the 160th Maritime Forum of the Maritime League.
Engr. Romel Pegarom, acting manager of CPA’s Planning and Monitoring Division, said during his presentation that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) targets to award the project in July 2021 and that the groundbreaking is scheduled on Aug. 16, 2021.
The NCICP Project costs around P9,962,000,000.00 which will be financed through the $172.64-M loan agreement signed in 2018 by the Philippine government and South Korea’s Export Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) equivalent to P8.48-B and a counterpart fund of around P1.28-B by the Philippine National Government.
