New Brooklyn Nets signee LaMarcus Aldridge is retiring from the NBA due to an irregular heartbeat, he said on social media Thursday.
Aldridge, 35, signed with the Nets in March to make a title push late in his career. The seven-time All-Star played his last game on April 10 against the Lakers. Though I m better now, what I felt with my heart that night was still one of the scariest things I ve experienced, Aldridge said on Twitter.
Originally drafted second overall in the 2006 NBA Draft to the Chicago Bulls, Aldridge spent the first nine years of his career in Portland after his rights were traded to the Trail Blazers on draft night. In the summer of 2015, the five-time All-NBA selection signed a deal with the San Antonio Spurs, with whom he d spend the next five-plus seasons before his buyout agreement with the Nets last month.
