Throwback Thursday: Brevort Hotel to New Beginnings Tierra Verde Apartments
Steve Harmon
Today s installment of Throwback Thursday takes us to the 100 block of East Avenue A on the north side. Warren Payne built and opened the Brevort Hotel in 1908 at 114 E. Ave. A.
Soon afterward the spelling was changed to Brevoort Hotel. This was actually more of a rooming house than a hotel as they were advertising for 50-day boarders. In 1914, the newly-formed Mercy Hospital Association leased out the hotel but quickly moved to a new location and it re-opened as the Brevoort again in 1915. The Brevoort changed hands numerous times but finally closed for good in 1938.
