Museums are affected by changes to the Act. Pictured is South Canterbury Museum’s Chris Rapley holding a single-shot handgun, known as a Kea Gun. “Our shared priority is to ensure that all museums receive the advice and support they need to ensure they can continue to hold and display firearms in their collections in compliance with the Arms Licencing Act.” One of the key changes to the Act, outlined in a New Zealand Police media release, is “the expansion of the types of activities that require a dealer licence”. Under the new rules, those displaying arms items as the director or curator of a bona fide museum, and those in the business of repairing or modifying arms items, must apply for a firearms dealer’s licence.
