Tim Flores and Nicole Westerfelt were excited to stage gender reveal ceremonies for family groups, so they purchased special party cannons that surprise onlookers with either blue or pink confetti and smoke. The first canon blast at Nicole’s mother’s place and a second ceremony at Tim’s mother’s home were greeted with cheers and applause. The couple then traveled to Tim’s father’s house NevCity. Tim asked gathered family members where they’d like to witness the canon shot. Outside, it was decided. “That’s a good idea,” Nicole announced to everyone, “because we did it inside at my mom’s house and there’s blue everywhere…!”

Despite some serious logistical challenges, Grass Valley will push forward with naming its largest upcoming municipal project after slain U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, who was born in the town.
“It’s very generous of them to consider honoring Chris,” said Jan Stevens, the emissary’s father, in a phone interview with The Union. “We’re very gracious of their consideration.”
One of those challenges is to garner California legislature approval of changing the name of a nearly $25 million planned project to add on- and off-ramps to Highway 49/20 at Dorsey Drive from “Dorsey Interchange” to something in honor of Stevens. It will require a legislative sponsor, said Public Works Director Tim Kiser.

Nevada Union High School is beginning registration for 8th grade students planning on attending NU in the 2021-2022 school year.
On Monday, January 11 and Tuesday, January 12, 2021, we will host a Zoom presentation with Principal Kelly Rhoden to share information about the upcoming enrollment process. 21-year-old at-risk man missing in Nevada County, sheriff s officials say

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. Nevada County Sheriff s deputies are searching for a missing at-risk 21-year-old man.
The sheriff s office said Ziel Negasimasai was last seen near Nevada Union High school on Tuesday evening.
Authorities described Negasimasai as standing at six feet and two inches and weighing about 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing black shorts without a shirt.
Sheriff s officials ask if anyone has seen Negasimasai call 530-265-7880.
