Look under your fruit trees. You might see dozens of tiny fruit on the ground. Don’t worry; it’s the June drop. Since trees often set more fruit than they can support, each June they shed an abundance of underdeveloped fruit.
A new year means it’s time to start gardening chores all over again. And, while it is only the end of January, clean up chores and pruning have begun. After the huge wind storm a few weeks ago, where a gust of 96 mph was measured here in Washoe Valley, we had a lot of downed tree debris.
I’m a fan of hummingbirds. They are amazing aerobatic wizards. They can fly in all directions including backwards and upside down at speeds of 30 to 45 mph. They can hover like miniature helicopters. They beat their wings 60 to 200 times per second.
