COVID-19: What you need to know Jan. 13 in Asheville, WNC Derek Lacey, Asheville Citizen Times © Courtesy photo Since receiving the first COVID-19 vaccines on Jan. 6, Buncombe County Health and Human Services staff have administered more than 1,433 vaccines and scheduled approximately 1,200 appointments this week. North Carolina added 6,851 new COVID-19 cases to its dashboard Jan. 12. The addition increased the total in the state to 635,975 since the start of the pandemic. As of Jan. 9, COVID-19 deaths in the state totaled 7,638. Hospitalizations Statewide, North Carolina reported 3,940 COVID-19 hospitalizations as of Jan. 11, as the total number of hospitalization continues increasing and inching back toward the record 3,964 set on Jan. 6.
