Network Rail engineers rebuild Sussex railway after landslip
Network Rail engineers have successfully rebuilt the railway between Dorking and Horsham after a 30m landslip damaged the line on Boxing Day.
The landslip occurred near to Ockley station after a clay embankment became saturated during heavy rain from Christmas Eve until December 26.
Engineers used 500t of new material to rebuild the railway where the embankment collapsed, supported by a new wall of sheet steel, embedded in the ground. Work was finished in time for the railway to reopen on Monday 4 January.
Sussex route director Shaun King said: “Following a landslip on the Mole Valley line near Ockley station at Christmas, engineers worked around the clock to stabilise the embankment, regrade the cutting slope and install 30m of sheet pile wall.
