Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley didn t have much to say about longtime friend and fellow Democrat Nan Whaley joining him in the 2022 Ohio governor s race on Monday.
Whaley, the Dayton mayor, announced she s making another run at governor after she dropped out of the 2018 race before the primary. It sets up a Democratic primary between the leaders of Southwest Ohio s two largest cities, pitting the liberal Whaley against the moderate Cranley.
Asked if he anticipates a nasty primary, Cranley told me: No, I don t think so. I have great respect for Nan and what we’ve done with the Ohio Mayors Alliance, advocating for more resources for cities across the state in Columbus and Washington, D.C. I consider her a friend.
