Nokia to aid LG Uplus expand 5G connectivity in South Korea

Nokia has struck a deal with LG Uplus to expand 5G connectivity in South Korea. LG Uplus is one of the largest carrier services in the East Asian country and the company will be deploying Nokia s small cell-based AirScale Indoor Radio (ASiR) systems to meet its 5G coverage demands.

As 5G grows, mobile data traffic is also expected to rise by leaps and bounds which require tremendous densification to provide for the capacity required. Nokia s ASiR, the company says, is a solution to help communication service providers (CSPs), like LG Uplus, to transition to 5G New Radio (NR) from 4G in an easy and cost-effective way. LG Uplus selected Nokia to supply 5G small cell equipment to improve indoor coverage across locations including shopping centres and office buildings.
The vendor stated it will supply its AirScale indoor system, comprising a digital baseband unit and pico remote radio head. Nokia explained the system covers multiple bands and can be deployed quickly in strategic locations when additional capacity is needed.
Kim Dae-hee, head of LG Uplus’ Network Infra Technology Group, said the “AirScale system will help provide seamless 5G connectivity” indoors.
“Its cost-effective, flexible and compact design enables us to enhance our 5G offering.”

Nokia will expand and enhance LG Uplus’ 5G network, enabling what it says will be seamless 5G connectivity between indoor and outdoor locations , with Nokia’s AirScale indoor solution to be deployed flexibly and upgraded easily, with the deal continuing the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
Nokia has announced an agreement with LG Uplus to expand 5G coverage by installing new equipment from Nokia’s comprehensive AirScale portfolio across South Korea, enabling seamless 5G indoor and outdoor connectivity.
We re told the deal is expected to accommodate future network expansion and will further deepen the partnership between the two companies, which have already collaborated on LTE, 5G and digital projects.
