With 255 vehicles involved in selling vegetables, fruits and provisions in the Corporation limits every day, the civic body has permitted traders to sell vegetables in 100 pushcarts on Thursday.
After the total lockdown, the Nethaji Daily Vegetable and Fruit Market and the Uzhavar Sandhai at Sampath Nagar were closed and traders were permitted to sell vegetables, fruits and provisions through vehicles to cover all the 60 wards in the civic body limits. Since these vehicles could not cover all the 3,200 streets, residents in many areas lodged complaints with the civic body demanding additional vehicles.

A medical shop in Udhagamandalam was sealed on Friday as one of the employees tested positive for COVID-19.

In the Nilgiris, the district administration sealed three shops, including a medical store, on Friday. According to officials, two of the shops were sealed for failing to enforce physical distancing norms and control the number of people entering the shops. The medical store was sealed as one of the employees tested positive for COVID-19, and the other workers did not get tested.

The usually busy streets in Salem an Namakkal looked deserted and vehicle movement was minimal after noon, with the new set of COVID-19 restrictions coming into force.
As part of the restrictions only shops selling essential items were allowed to open for business and hotels restricted their service to takeaways. Though the government had permitted the operating of grocery stores till noon, many remained closed since morning as the business period was restricted to a few hours.

With complete lockdown to be enforced on Sunday, people thronged vegetable and fruit markets and meat shops in large numbers on Saturday.
Since the lockdown will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday and end at 4 a.m. on Monday, vegetable and fruit markets, groceries, departmental stores, and provisional stores were busy throughout the day.
Traders at the Nethaji Daily Vegetable and Fruit Market said business was 25 to 30% higher than the usual. Temporary shops along roadside selling vegetables and fruits also made brisk business in the evening hours.
